Frequently Asked Questions
MA is a trade finance service provider and transaction facilitator. We help clients understand their requirements, structure the transaction and coordinate with the appropriate banking channels.
No. MA is not a bank or lender. We do not issue SBLCs, BGs or other banking instruments. The bank makes its own decision on whether to approve and issue an instrument.
Depending on the requirement, MA can facilitate solutions involving SBLCs, BGs, LCs, Performance Guarantees, Advance Payment Guarantees and Deferred Payment Guarantees.
MA works with clients internationally and has a network covering 100+ countries.
However, every transaction is reviewed individually, and MA does not work with sanctioned or prohibited jurisdictions.
No. We look at the country, client, business activity, transaction, compliance requirements and banking risk before proceeding.
MA works with a network of banks, including established banks in the UK, Hong Kong and Europe, as well as selected smaller and regional banks. The right bank depends on the client's requirement and the specific transaction.
Because the bank is taking a financial obligation. The bank needs to be comfortable with the client, transaction, financial position, KYC, source of funds and compliance before making its decision. We normally begin with CIS, KYC, company profile, POF and transaction details. Additional documents may be requested when required.
No. MA does not charge an upfront facilitation fee. However, in some transactions, a bank or third-party service provider may require a cost upfront. If this happens, the purpose of the payment, amount and 100% refund conditions should be clearly written into a formal contract before payment.
Yes, where required. An official MA site visit may be conducted as part of our due-diligence process. This is a separately chargeable professional service, and the cost is communicated to the client in advance.
If a 100% refund has been agreed, the refund conditions and timeline will be clearly stated in the contract. Any funds paid directly to MA are 100% refundable if MA does not deliver the agreed service, subject to the applicable contract.
An SBLC (Standby Letter of Credit) is a bank undertaking that provides protection to the beneficiary if the applicant does not meet the obligation covered by the SBLC, subject to its terms.
A Bank Guarantee (BG) is a bank's undertaking covering a specific obligation of its customer.
MT760 is commonly used by banks to transmit guarantees and standby letters of credit through SWIFT. MT799 is generally a bank-to-bank communication message. It is a free-format message and should not be confused with the actual issuance of an SBLC or BG.
BPU means Bank Payment Undertaking. In certain transaction structures, it can be used as a payment commitment subject to agreed conditions. The actual effectiveness depends on the bank, wording, conditions and legal structure..
For certain transactions involving top-class banks, an independent Swiss lawyer or law firm may act as an escrow agent for the agreed client commitment. The funds remain with the independent third party and are released according to the agreed escrow conditions. MA also gives the client the freedom to choose their preferred independent escrow lawyer or law firm in Switzerland, subject to the transaction requirements.
No.
The final decision always belongs to the bank. MA's role is to facilitate, structure and coordinate the transaction.
